CSIRO offers PhD graduates an opportunity to launch their scientific careers through our Office of the Chief Executive (OCE) Postdoctoral Fellowships. Successful applicants will work with leaders in the field of science and receive personal development and learning opportunities.
The successful applicant for this position will undertake functional characterisation of a sugar transporter that confers broad spectrum adult plant resistance to multiple fungal pathogens in wheat. This will involve tools in sugar transport biology, plant trans-membrane biology and electrophysiology, molecular plant microbe interaction of rust diseases in wheat, to guide studies into unraveling the metabolic processes underlying a unique mutation that confers broad spectrum resistance. The postdoctoral fellow will work with Drs Evans Lagudah, Anne Rae, Peter Dodds and Peter Ryan as part of a multi-disciplinary effort towards understanding plant immunity systems aimed at preventing losses in agricultural production.
