Post-Doctoral Position, Regional Powers in World Politics

Pending funding, Universität Hamburg invites applications for a Post-Doctoral Position in the field of Regional Powers in World Politics commencing on 01.06.2014.
The Experienced Researcher (ER) position is full-time (39 hours per week) and is remunerated with a gross salary of € 55,458 plus mobility allowance according to the EC Marie Curie financial guidelines for this scheme.
This full-time post will be offered on a fixed-term contract for a period of 24 months. The short-term nature of this contract is based upon the Academic Short-term Contract Act (WissZeitVG).

Tasks:
Duties include academic services in the Marie Curie Initial Training Network PRIMO (Power and Region in a Multipolar Order).
Area(s) of responsibility:
The Marie Curie Initial Training Network PRIMO develops innovative research and training in the field of International Relations, in particular with respect to the growing importance of Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa in international politics and the global economy. We are looking for a post-doctoral researcher with experience in theoretical and methodological work on world politics. Objective of the research is to develop an analytical framework for the study of regional powers in close cooperation with the University of Oxford and other network partners. The ER will work on concepts and theoretical assumptions concerning the interactions of non-state actors with regional powers and the effects of international institutions on the rising states. He/she is also expected to contribute to the discussion and dissemination of the analytical framework and to its application in doctoral training and research.
Requirements:
A university degree in a relevant subject plus a doctoral degree or equivalent research experience. Candidates should have a strong background in one or more of the following fields: international relations theory, international political economy, area studies and new qualitative methods.
Marie Curie eligibility criteria must be respected: ERs must (at the time of recruitment by the host organisation) be in possession of a doctoral degree or have at least four years of full-time equivalent research experience. At the time of recruitment by the host organisation an ER must also have less than five years of full-time equivalent research experience. Researchers may not have resided or carried out their main activity (work, studies, etc) in Germany for more than 12 months in the 3 years immediately prior to his/her appointment by the University of Hamburg. Short stays such as holidays are not taken into account.
