　　If you are working abroad as a post-doc or a visiting scholar, you will probably be able to experience Team Building activities with your coworkers. It is common for work places to organize this kind of activities to try to motivate and unite their employees, as well as to help them relax and have fun. Team Building activities are usually performed out-doors and involve games and trust exercises.

　　What is a “Team Building”?

　　Team building is the process of turning a group of employees into a cohesive team that works together, interdependently and cooperatively, to meet their purpose and goals.

　　A: Hey Anna, I wanted to talk to you about the Team Building Activities planned for next week. Have you read the email Susan from the HR department sent us?

　　A：嘿，安娜，我想和您谈谈下周的团建活动。您有收到人事部苏珊发给大家的邮件吗？

　　B: Hi James. Yes, just now. We are going to have a ‘Team Building’ next Friday. Sounds like fun!

　　B：您好，詹姆斯。是的，就刚刚收到的。咱们下周五要团建了，听起来很有趣！

　　A: It is. Last year’s Team Building was so much fun! I fell down like twice trying to catch the other team’s flag, but it was worth it. Last year we got the largest amount of points and won a prize: an executive lunch coupon for the pizza place downstairs. I love that place.

　　A：是的。去年的团建活动真的很有意思！我费很大劲想要抓住对方的队旗，结果摔了好像有两次吧，但是很值得。去年，我们得分最高，赢得的奖品是楼下披萨店的行政午餐券。我真是太喜欢那个地方了。

　　B: Oh… But you didn’t hurt yourself, right? The prize does sound nice, though.

　　B：哦……不过您没受伤，对吧？尽管这样，那奖品听起来确实不错。

　　A: No, no at all. You see, there will be all kinds of sporty activities meant to help us trust each other more. Like pulling the rope or doing a “trust-fall”. We have divided the entire department of Biochemistry into smaller groups randomly. And each group should select one color to represent them and wear matching t-shirts.

　　A：没受伤，一点问题也没有。您也知道，有各种各样的体育活动可以帮助我们更信任彼此，比如拔河，或者“信任背摔”。我们已经把整个生物化学系的同事们随机分成几个小组。每个小组选择一种颜色来代表他们队伍，并穿上比赛T恤。

　　B: Wow. It does seem really fun! I noticed that we are both on group “B”. What color do you think we should pick for our group?

　　B：哇，看起来真是非常不错哟！我注意到咱俩都是在B组。您觉得哪个颜色更适合咱们组？

　　A: Umm good question. Maybe a bright color like yellow or green? Could you help me sending an email to the members of our group and choose a color? We can put it to a vote.

　　A：额，问得好。也许亮色系，比如黄色或者绿色？您能帮我给咱们组的成员发邮件问下选哪个颜色更合适吗？咱们可以投票选择。

　　B: Of course. I’ll send the email right away.

　　B：当然，我马上发邮件过去。

　　A: Thanks Anna.

　　B: Anytime James.
