Postdoctoral Researcher At The Donders Centre For Cognition, Faculty Of Social Sciences (1.0 FTE)

Radboud University Of Nijmegen

Description

Postdoctoral Researcher at the Donders Centre for Cognition

Employment: 1.0 FTE

Faculty of Social Sciences

Required background: PhD

Duration of the contract: 1 year

Application deadline: 20 May 2021

We are looking for

The Donders Institute for Brain, Cognition and Behaviour, in conjunction with the Max Planck Institute for Psycholinguistics, is offering a postdoctoral position. As a postdoctoral researcher you will join the Communication on Social Interaction (CoSI) Group, led by PI Judith Holler. Your role will be to support the Communication in Action (CoAct) project, recently funded by the European Research Council.

The CoAct project investigates the role of visual communicative signals (including those performed with the hands, head, torso and face) during language use and processing in situated, face-to-face communication. In doing so, the project combines a variety of methodological approaches, including the collection and analysis of conversational corpus data and experimental data. The analyses of multimodal language use and processing will rely partly on traditional data (e.g. video recordings and conversational behaviour coding, reaction times, EEG), and partly on novel motion capture data and Virtual Reality techniques.

You will take the lead on sub-projects involving primarily experimental work using behavioural and EEG paradigms. You will be expected to collect, process and statistically analyse data from experimental studies, and sometimes quantitatively analyse corpus data. You will also be expected to conduct literature reviews, generate and refine research questions, write manuscripts reporting the results of your analyses for publication in academic outlets, disseminate the research findings at conferences and workshops, participate in public outreach activities, and be involved in the co-supervision of Bachelor's, Master's and PhD students. You will also contribute to projects led by others.

We ask

A background in a relevant scientific field, such as linguistics, psychology, or another area of the language or cognitive sciences.

A background in research on human language processing as demonstrated through research studies on this topic led by you.

A strong interest in multimodal communication (experience in research on semantic multimodal integration is a plus).

Experience with collecting, processing and analysing experimental data, including behavioural and EEG data, with a focus on oscillations.

Excellent time management and organisational skills.

Strong interpersonal and team working skills.

Advanced statistical and programming skills are a plus.

We offer

Employment: 1.0 FTE.

A maximum gross monthly salary of €3,746 based on a 38-hour working week (salary scale 11.0). Please note that in the case of employment commencing prior to a doctorate having been officially awarded, researchers will be employed on scale 10.3, with a maximum gross monthly salary of € 3,217.- based on a 38-hour working week, as per faculty regulation.

The exact salary depends on the candidate's qualifications and amount of relevant professional experience.

In addition to the salary: an 8% holiday allowance and an 8.3% end-of-year bonus.

Duration of the contract: 1 year.

The intended start date is 1 August 2021 or as soon as possible thereafter.

Your will be employed by Radboud University, but you may also be based at the Max Planck Institute for Psycholinguistics. Both institutes are equal opportunity employers, committed to building a culturally diverse intellectual community, and as such encourage applications from women and minorities.

You will be able to use our Dual Career and Family Care Services. Our Dual Career and Family Care Officer can assist you with family-related support, help your partner or spouse prepare for the local labour market, provide customized support in their search for employment and help your family settle in Nijmegen.
