GoJelly Postdoc Position

The Department of Biology at the University of Southern Denmark is recruiting a quantitative biologist with expertise in population dynamics to conduct a short-term (nine months - with possible extension up to a year) project at SDU. The overarching aim of our research theme is to understand and predict how jellyfish will respond to ongoing and future climatic change. The specific aim of this part of the project is to produce a model linking sea conditions to population size and structure in European jellyfish population(s). The model will be parameterised by data collected by colleagues, and/or from published literature sources.

Experience/skills required:

A PhD or proven skills in population biology or related areas.

An interest in impacts of climate change on nature.

Expertise in using R or Python to model population dynamics using matrix population models (MPMs), ordinary differential equations (ODEs) or similar.

Experience with parameterising and interpreting models that include external environmental drivers such as temperature.

Experience writing up results for peer review.

Good written and oral presentation skills (in English).

Ability to work in an interdisciplinary, international, team.

The candidate will be hired on the current EU H2020 project “GoJelly”. Application deadline: 14 May 2021.
