Job Description

: We are seeking Postdoctoral Appointees to become part of the NM Stockpile System Engineering team (02221, 02222, 02223, 02224, 02225). We are responsible for supporting the nation's nuclear weapons stockpile -- partnering with other Sandia organizations to design innovative surveillance approaches for our high-priority component and material evaluation efforts, develop multimillion dollar instrumented flight test units, and provide design agency engineering support for production. We also support technical studies supporting nuclear safety and other special topics, and conduct testing and analysis of stockpile weapons systems/component performance. Important external interfaces include our National Nuclear Security Administration customers, DoD customers, Los Alamos National Laboratory, DoD contractors, Kansas City National Security Campus, and Pantex production plants. Some travel will be required to fulfill the duties of this position. Since there are several openings within the 2220 group, candidates may be placed in any of the five departments within the group (2221, 2222, 2223, 2224, 2225). On any given day, you may be called on to: + Apply technical knowledge to determine experimental approach, design experiments in collaboration with colleagues, and analyze results + Create and present technical evaluations, white papers, and design approaches + Participate in high performing teams developing technically innovative solutions to challenging national security problems 

Required:
99. Ph.D. in electrical engineering, mechanical engineering, or related science, technology, engineering, or math (STEM) discipline received within the last five years; 99. Ability to obtain and maintain a DOE Q-level security clearance.

99. Experience in any of the following areas: Modeling and simulation, System Engineering, product design and realization, testing and evaluation; 99. Demonstrated problem-solving skills to develop creative technical solutions; 99. Eagerness to work in a multi-disciplinary team environment; 99. Group 2220 contributes to National Security by assuring the deterrence provided by the B61, W76-0, W76-1, W78, and W88 Weapon Systems are assured to meet their requirements with a documented and continuously improving technical basis. Security Clearance:

Position requires a Department of Energy (DOE) granted Q-level security clearance. Sandia is required by DOE directive to conduct a pre-employment background review that includes personal reference checks, law enforcement record and credit checks, and employment and education verifications. Applicants for employment must be able to obtain and maintain a DOE Q-level security clearance, which requires U.S. citizenship.
