摘要:

Senior Research Fellow in Data Intensive Science

University of Portsmouth - Faculty of Technology; Institute of Cosmology and Gravitation

Interview date: To be scheduled between 26/10/2015 – 30/10/2015

The Institute of Cosmology and Gravitation (ICG) intends to appoint a Research Fellow in Data Intensive Science from 1st November 2015, or as soon as possible thereafter. The post is to enhance and complement the programme of world-class research at the ICG and high-quality teaching at the University of Portsmouth.

Data Intensive Science (or “Big Data”) has been recognised by the UK government as one of the eight great technologies and is the focus of research funding. This fellow is to build capacity in this area of research and innovation, drawing on a variety of data rich subjects at the University of Portsmouth beyond Astrophysics and Cosmology e.g. Geographical Information Systems, Intelligent Data Systems, Crowdsourcing, Health Informatics, Operational Research, Bioinformatics and Decision Support Systems.

The post is based in the ICG recognised for its world-leading research in large complex data (e.g. SDSS, DES, LSST and SKA), but with the aim of collaboration with other departments and/or business to generate new research/innovation opportunities.

The successful candidate will have an excellent research record, complementing and extending the existing research interests and expertise in cosmology and astrophysics. They will be expected to develop new opportunities for research and innovation, and to attract external funding. Holders of personal research fellowships are encouraged to apply.

We welcome applications from all qualified applicants, but applications are particularly encouraged from traditionally under-represented groups in science. The University of Portsmouth holds an Athena SWAN bronze award and is an Institute of Physics Project Juno Supporter; these projects show a commitment to introduce organisational and cultural practices that promote gender equality in science and create a better working environment for men and women.

Applications (application form, CV, publication list and research statement) should be submitted via the online application system by the closing date, 30 September 2015. Applicants should also arrange for up to three reference letters to be sent by email to icg-admin@port.ac.uk, to arrive by the same date.
