Job Description
Immediate opening for a post-doctoral fellow position is available at the Department of Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering, Johns Hopkins University. This position is on the development of picosecond sum frequency generation (SFG) spectroscopic methods to study catalytic reactions at electrochemical interfaces. Particular reactions of interest include oxidation of small alcohol molecules and CO2 reduction, which are promising chemical processes for the development of electrical-chemical energy conversion technologies. By taking advantage of the surface-specific feature of SFG, it is aimed to probe the reaction intermediates adsorbed on the catalyst surface, identify the reaction pathway(s), and develop fundamental understanding of the rate-limiting factors. The obtained knowledge will then be translated into the design of advanced catalysts for activity, selectivity and stability enhancement. This position is a joint hire between the labs of Prof. David Gracias and Prof. Chao Wang. The postdoctoral fellow will have a unique opportunity to do interdisciplinary research at the interface of catalysis for renewable energy conversion, spectroscopy and surface science. Expertise is required in laser spectroscopy, SFG and/or in situ spectro-electrochemical studies. PhD in physical chemistry, physics or engineering with relevant background is required. Highly motivated and experienced researchers are sought with capabilities of carrying out independent research. Good oral and written communication skills are a plus.
