Research Area: Cancer Immunology and Immunotherapy

Position Description: The Department of Surgery, Division of Surgical Oncology at the University of Pittsburgh has an immediate opening in the Kammula Lab for a talented and passionate postdoctoral fellow/associate. The Division of Surgical Oncology’s primary goal is to develop novel methods for treating cancers through immunology, virology, and molecular biology techniques, and to translate research findings into patient treatments. We are interested in recruiting PhD or MD/PhD candidates for a laboratory that focuses on adoptive T cell therapies for cancer.  Please see PMID: 28395880; PMID: 26712692; PMID: 26100671; PMID: 25424856 for detailed lab research interest.

The post-doctoral research fellow will work on independent and collaborative projects developing adoptive T cell immunotherapy for advanced cancers. The successful applicant will employ strategies for cloning T cell receptors and genetic modification of human T cells with TCRs specific for antigens expressed by malignancies. In vitro studies using human T cells and in vivo murine models will be used to develop and test novel T cell therapies. The post-doctoral fellow will perform correlative studies to evaluate the transfer, persistence and function of antigen-specific T cells in human clinical trials of adoptive T cell immunotherapy. The position will involve molecular work with PCR, cloning, vector design, as well as cell culture, flow cytometry, intercellular staining, transfections, andELISA/ELISPOT.

Candidates that have an interest in mechanistic and translational studies in cancer immunology and immunotherapy are encouraged to apply. The qualified applicants will be required to conduct research, interpret results, prepare manuscripts, and aid in the preparation of grant applications. The required expertise includes all common molecular biology and cellular immunology techniques, molecular cloning, cell culture, and experience with murine in vivo models. The applicant should have command of the English language, good interpersonal skills, critical thinking ability and evidence of experience and good writing skills through first author publications in peer reviewed journals. The applicant should also be proficient in computer software usage including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and statistical packages.

To be considered for one of these positions, please provide a one-page statement of research interest, a current curriculum vitae and contact information for three-references to: surgoncapplicants@upmc.edu.
