Postdoctoral fellow / research scientist positions are available in the cancer biology group at the Biomedical/Biotechnology Research Institute (BBRI) at the North Carolina Central University, Durham, NC. The project involves characterizing the molecular mechanisms of cancer progression emphasizing the role of microRNAs in prostate, breast and liver cancer disparities. Additional opportunities are available to characterize molecular targets for therapeutic and diagnostic interventions in cancer precision medicine. The projects are collaborative efforts between basic, translational and clinical researchers at NCCU, Georgetown University, Wake Forest Medical Center at Duke Univerity to elucidate microRNA biology and their role as biomarkers and therapeutic targets using multidisciplinary approaches integrating molecular cellular, physiology and multi-omics biology. Primary responsibilities will include design, execution and analysis of cancer signaling pathways using in vitro and in vivo models. Other responsibilities include preparation of manuscripts, proposals, presentations and supervising research trainees.

Candidate must have a PhD degree in biomedical sciences with publications in scientific journals and appropriate background in molecular genetic approaches to study cancer hall marks, discovery and validation of therapeutic and diagnostic targets, signal transduction, exosomes and RNA biology, murine models. For example, cell culture, transfections, protein, DNA and RNA analysis, cell based assays, next generation sequencing, gene expression and use of mouse models etc. The applicant must be highly motivated, eager to learn, a strong team player with excellent presentation and writing skills. Prior experience with microRNA biology and CRISPR mediated gene knockouts is highly desirable.
