摘要:

Postdoctoral Research Scientist in Vascular Biology

The Laboratory of Dr. Lisa Cassis within the University of Kentucky (UK) School of Medicine in the Department of Pharmacology and Nutritional Sciences is seeking to fill a Postdoctoral Research Scientist position in the area of vascular biology.

Dr. Cassis’ laboratory investigates the basic mechanisms of abdominal aortic aneurysms (AAAs) and atherosclerosis with emphasis in understanding the role of sex hormones and sex chromosomes as mediators of sex differences in these vascular diseases.  The successful applicant will develop an NHLBI-funded project to examine the role of sex chromosomes in the regulation of AAAs and atherosclerosis.  Current studies are also examining sex-specific therapeutics in the treatment of these vascular diseases.  The laboratory employs state-of-the- art approaches such as high-resolution ultrasound, radiotelemetry, and DNA microarray to assess vascular function in vivo and ex vivo.  This is an excellent opportunity for a highly motivated and enthusiastic individual to learn vascular surgical and imaging skills, if desired.

Laboratory personnel have access to state-of-the-art research instrumentation through the University of Kentucky’s metabolic, imaging, flow cytometry and microarray cores.  Dr. Cassis’ laboratory also works closely with the Saha Cardiovascular Research Center (cvrc.med.uky.edu).

Requirements and Qualifications:

-PhD or MD degree in biological or biomedical sciences, with at least 1 first-author original research publication in a leading peer-reviewed journal.

-Expertise in vascular biology, molecular, and biochemical biology (qRT-PCR, Western blotting, enzymatic assays) is highly desirable.

-The ideal candidate has previous training and working experience in one or more of the following areas:  (1) animal husbandry and handling; (2) mechanistic studies in animal models of hyperlipidemia, hypertension, and/or AAAs; (3) vascular surgery and ultrasound imaging.

-Good communication skills, strong motivation, high level of integrity and ethical standards, respect for laboratory members, and the ability to advance a project productively and work independently are required.

Competitive salary will be commensurate with relevant experience and based on NIH guidelines.  Eligible Postdoctoral Research Scientists qualify for UK-based benefits as outlined in Administrative Regulation 5:1 (https://www.uky.edu/regs/sites/www.uky.edu.regs/files/files/ar/ar5-1.pdf).

Interested candidates should submit a curriculum vitae and contact details of 3 references to Dr. Lisa Cassis at lcassis@uky.edu.  Applications will be considered until the position is filled.  UK is an equal opportunity employer: minorities, women, veterans, and individuals with disabilities are encouraged to apply.
