Professors David Rowitch and Lucy Raymond supervise the "Next Generation Children's Project" in Cambridge which uses whole genome sequencing to identify rare genetic disorders in the Intensive Care Setting. A major challenge is rapid delivery of actionable DNA sequence variants in a timeframe for use by the bedside clinician. This Informatics Postdoc will address these challenges in a collaborative working group comprising Medical Genetics and Informatics mentors and Clinical Neonatologists at the Addenbrooke's Cambridge University Hospital Foundation Trust.

We are looking for a scientist with a PhD (or equivalent) in Bioinformatics, Statistics or Computational Biology with experience in Next Generation Sequencing data analysis, in particular whole genome and RNA-seq data. The successful candidate will work on different genomic projects that involve analysis and integration of different molecular data types to study human gene variants and clinical phenotypes. Experience with analysis of data from different high-throughput experiments, such as DNA-seq data (mutation calling, copy number analysis), RNA-seq (isoform quantification and splicing detection), or ChIP-seq (peak calling, differential binding) will be valued.

We are a multidisciplinary team formed by clinicians, genetic councilors, computational biologists and clinical fellows, therefore a cooperative approach to working is needed for this position, as well as an ability to communicate and interact with colleagues with other backgrounds. In addition to data acquisition handling and analysis, the successful applicant will also be engaged in multidisciplinary discussions to determine the clinical impact of variants discovered in the analysis, and further refinement of conclusions during multidisciplinary genetics monthly meetings.

Fixed-term: The funds for this post are available until 31 January 2020 in the first instance.
