About the role:

The overall goal of the Clinical and Experimental Pharmacology Group (CEP) in the CRUK Manchester Institute, led by Professor Caroline Dive CBE, is to develop, validate, and implement biomarkers that facilitate the optimisation of cancer patient treatment – personalised medicine. In this regard, CEP is an acknowledged world leader in the study of minimally invasive biomarkers (liquid biopsies) suitable for patient monitoring. Our biomarker research is conducted in partnership with clinical colleagues and statistics experts across the Centre; advanced biomarker statistics is critical to the biomarker agenda.

An exciting opportunity now presents for a Biostatistician to join CEP, positioned within the newly established Manchester Centre for Cancer Biomarker Sciences (MCCBS). The primary focus of this position is to provide biostatistical support to the experimental cancer medicine work within CEP/MCCBS and the Experimental Cancer Medicine Team (ECMT) in The Christie.

You will work alongside a multidisciplinary team of clinicians, biologists and computational scientists to conduct biostatistics analysis using existing methods and, where relevant, to develop novel statistical models that advance the state of the art in cancer biomarkers. The post will encompass a range of biomarker-related studies, including clinical trial design and the development of advanced statistical methods for biomarker analysis. You will work with a diverse collection of datasets, such as patient health data, time-to-event data, biomarker longitudinal data, imaging-, proteomics-, and genome sequencing data.

About you:

You should have a PhD in Statistics (or relevant field) or a relevant postgraduate degree plus significant experience in statistical modelling.

You will have excellence in biostatistics (preferably applied to clinical trials), excellent communication skills and the ability to converse successfully with interdisciplinary collaborators from a non-statistical background. Experience of multidisciplinary teamwork will confer an advantage, while a working knowledge of bioinformatics would be beneficial. The post will be associated with the Centre for Biostatistics and the School of Health Sciences at The University of Manchester.
