Postdoctoral fellow position in Neuroscience : Munich, Germany

The Hospital of the University of Munich, Germany, is one of the largest and most competitive university hospitals in Germany and Europe. 47 specialized hospitals, departments and institutions harbouring excellent research and education provide patient care at the highest medical level with approximately 10.000 employees.

The Ludwig-Maximilians-University of Munich offers a

Postdoctoral fellow position in Neuroscience

We are:

The Institute for Stroke and Dementia Research located in the biomedical science campus, is a part of Ludwig-Maximilians-University of Munich (ranked as the top university in Germany according to Times Higher Education World University Rankings). Our lab at the ISD has a state-of-the-art infrastructure including brand new fully equipped labs and offices including recently purchased light-sheet microscopes, confocal and 2-photon microscopes, FACS, behavior, surgery, single-cell gene profiling units. We offer an interactive and inspiring atmosphere, ideal for our researchers to publish in top-tier journals and develop their career at best.

Our group (Ertürk lab) explores mechanisms underlying neurodegenerative diseases after an acute brain injury. To this end, we map the mouse brain using various cutting-edge techniques to assess brain function and structure using DISCO tissue clearing methods that we developed: Nature Medicine (Ertürk et al. 2012), Nature Protocols (Ertürk et al. 2012), Nature Methods (Pan et al., 2016). We are also interested in chemistry of tissue clearing, machine/deep learning (AI), physics of light-sheet microscopy and nanoparticles.

You are:

- extremely curious about basic science and carry a great interest to make breakthroughs
- always looking for solutions to turn great ideas and opportunities into actions
- always willing to learn, and have the courage to ask questions
- open to express your opinions and receive feedbacks/critics
- a team player and willing to work in a collaborative environment to share ideas and experiences
- willing to be part of a diverse team to make a dent in the universe

The Position:

Our recent work (named uDISCO) published in Nature Methods in August 2016 and highlighted by media worldwide including New York Times, Wall Street Journal, Nature and Science magazines. uDISCO demonstrated the possibility of clearing and imaging of entire adult rodents to map neuronal, glial and vascular connections.

We are looking for candidates with a strong background in molecular/cellular biology and neuroscience. The research project focuses on mechanisms of chronic (secondary) neurodegeneration in experimental stroke models. We are interested in understanding how neuroinflammation contributes to long-term neurodegeneration. The project requires usage of cell biology and molecular biology techniques, tissue clearing, in vivo 2-photon imaging, lightsheet microscopy imaging, live cell imaging, histology, and behavioral tests. Ideal candidates should have strong expertise in molecular and cell biology methods and a good understanding of neurobiology.

Salary will be based on German public employment guidelines (TV-L). The Ludwig-Maximilians-University is an equal opportunity employer. Individuals of all nationalities, genders, ages, and those with disabilities are encouraged to apply.

Disabled persons will be preferentially considered in case of equal qualification. Presentation
costs cannot be refunded.
