Job Description
The Department of Ophthalmology at the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine has an exciting opportunity for a Postdoctoral Associate. This position will work directly with the Principal Investigator, Dr. Abigail Hackam, to study the cellular and molecular mechanisms of optic nerve regeneration. Duties may include, but are not limited to, conducting independent experiments that will contribute to the research project; handling experimental mice; in vivo measurement retina function and vision behavior, electroretinogram, OCT imaging and data analysis and troubleshooting; ex vivo preparation of retina cultures, protein and nucleic acid analyses, cell culture, neurite measurements and cell signaling assays; solving experimental problems that may arise in pursuing the project objectives, including adaptation of techniques from the literature or developing novel techniques; maintaining accurate laboratory records; maintaining current knowledge of literature in the area of the research project; preparing initial draft of manuscripts describing the research performed and assisting in the writing of grant proposals to bring funding to the lab for multiple research projects; presenting data at laboratory meetings and at national and international meetings; and training and supervising undergraduate and graduate students in the lab.The minimum qualifications for this position are as follows: Ph.D. with previous experience with laboratory techniques, including evidence of research productivity such as publications or meeting presentations. Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, with command of the English language. Must be logically-driven, detail oriented, have high integrity, well organized and have the potential to continue learning. Must have the ability to work independently. Ability to demonstrate a strong background in molecular, cellular or developmental neuroscience, preferably with experience with transgenic animals.
