Job description:

Plants are the fundamental basis of nutrition as well as raw materials and recyclables starting material for the energetic and material use of biomass. At the Institute of Bio- and Geosciences - Institute Plant Science (IBG - 2) an integrated approach for the intensification and sustainability of crop production and plant utilization will be developed to enable sustainable crop production for the bio-economy of the future. This includes all aspects of modern in plant biotechnology research and development to sustainable industrial material use and Resource Management of renewable resources. One example is the optimization of the production and use of unique plant secondary metabolites for specialty chemistry which are not economically producible by petrochemical processes. In co-operation with South East Asian partner’s sustainable production of high-quality plant metabolites along the value chain of an endangered tree species are developed. In this case a biotechnological production platform for induced production of value-adding secondary metabolites through plant cell and tissue culture techniques will be developed as well as developing scientific procedures for a traceable method addressing the origin of the natural forest resources. As part of an international cooperation herewith a contribution should be made for a compatible, efficient and sustainable industrial production management by simultaneously preserving biodiversity and natural resources.

application of methods for the biotechnological production of high-Quality secondary plant metabolites from plants using plant cell & tissue culture techniques identification and application of molecular and biochemical methods for the identification, investigation and characterization of plant and fungal species experiments on the molecular biological characterization of induced secondary metabolites from plant cell and tissue cultures project-related cooperation within the framework of international activities with partners from science and industry support on intellectual property rights strategies to ensure the innovation and application potential

Your Profile:

university degree in biology, agricultural science or a related discipline and completed, relevant PhD level knowledge in plant cell biology and secondary metabolites (synthesis , production) experience in the field of plant tissue culture, sterile in vitro propagation of plants practical experience in molecular biology methods (DNA & RNA extraction, q-PCR, sequencing, primer design) and in microbiological methods (isolation/ cultivation of fungi and bacteria) knowledge and proven experience with molecular sequencing method for the identification , investigation and characterization of plant and fungi species (DNA barcoding; ITS PCR analysis) experience in implementation and statistical analysis of experiments very good command of written and spoken English initiative character, creativity, good communication skills, results orientation and analytical skills the ability to work independently and as a team player with initiative
