Founded in 1891, the Robert Koch Institute (RKI) is one of the world's oldest biomedical research institutions.

In the "Biosafety Level 4 Laboratory" of the Centre for Biological Threats and Special Pathogens (ZBS 5), we are offering a five-year position for a

Postdoctoral Research Fellow (m/f)

(Salary is dependent on qualifications and experience in accordance with the public sector wage scale up to grade 14 TVöD).

Starting date for the position is 1 March 2016.

Tasks and responsibilities
• Development and implementation of research projects in the field of pathogenesis of risk group 4 
viruses
• Organising and conducting animal experiments at BSL-4
• Staff training (initial and repeated training)
• Assistance in applying for research project funding
• Instruction of users and in-house teaching of bioinformatics competences
• Participation in 24/7 on-call duty

Profile
• University degree (on at least a master's level) in Biology, Veterinary or Medical Science
• PhD in Virology
• Experience in conducting laboratory animal studies
• Experience in cell biology, molecular biology or immunology
• Experience in working with pathogens of risk group 3 or risk group 4 desirable
• Publication of research results
• Required language skills (CEFR-level): advanced knowledge of English (at least C1), basic
knowledge of German (A 2) is of advantage

The suitable candidate will receive security clearance and meet the physical requirements for entry into the maximum containment laboratory. These personal qualifications and medical fitness are therefore a prerequisite for employment.

The suitable candidate will desire to actively further their area of responsibility and enjoy presenting new proposals and ideas for improvement. If the suitable candidate does not speak German, we expect him/her to be willing to obtain the level of German language proficiency required to function effectively in the work environment.
