Postdoctoral Position: Immune Responses in Influenza Virus Infection

The Viral Pathogenesis and Evolution Section, Laboratory of Infectious Diseases, NIAID, seeks to address fundamental questions of influenza virus pathogenesis in humans and different animal hosts, including the mapping of viral virulence factors and mutations associated with host adaptation, as well as characterizing the host response to infection. The section also actively performs translational research involving clinical trials addressing pandemic and seasonal influenza infections in patients with and without immunocompromise. These investigations include characterization of the development of antiviral resistance mutations, intra-host viral evolution, and characterization of the host immune response. Experiments are also being performed to evaluate novel therapeutics for the treatment of severe influenza and to evaluate the significance of heterosubtypic immunity to influenza viral antigens for the development of a universal influenza virus vaccine. The postdoctoral fellow will have the opportunity to work on projects related to both immune responses following viral infection in samples from clinical trials and from experimental animal models. 

Requirements
Applicants must have a Ph.D., or M.D., or equivalent, less than five years of postdoctoral experience, and a history of productivity as evidenced by prior publications. Candidates should have experience in mouse or human immunology, including flow cytometry and cell sorting, T-cell assays, experimental animal work, and qualitative analysis of antibodies. Interest in vaccine development, virology, or experimental pathogenesis would be helpful.
