Postdoctoral fellow positions are available immediately in the Department of Neuroscience at Mayo Clinic in Jacksonville, Florida under the supervision of Wolfdieter Springer, PhD. The projects focus on the molecular and cellular mechanisms of aging and neurodegeneration, in particular in Parkinson's disease. Our translational research aims at developing novel biomarkers and therapeutics that are based on an understanding of the underlying biological pathways and disease mechanisms. For this we combine cutting edge biochemistry and immunoassays with structure-based drug design and advanced automated imaging of cells and tissues from patients and animal models. Specific areas of interest include phospho, ubiquitin, and autophagic signaling during PINK1/Parkin-directed mitochondrial quality control.

Qualified candidates must have a Ph.D or M.D./Ph.D. degree with a strong background in protein biochemistry, C. elegans and/or mouse models of neurodegeneration. Candidates must be highly motivated and must have the ability to design, conduct and report on controlled research experiments. Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English are essential.
