Research Scholar: postdoctoral position Nuclear Physicist

Job Description

 

The National Institute of Aerospace (NIA) has an opening for a Research Scholar to work in the area of nuclear physics. Successful candidate will perform analysis of cross section and thick target measurements of neutrons and charged particles. They will also compare results with nuclear models and transport codes. The candidate will need to be self-motivated, capable of multi-tasking, and have the ability to clearly present research results in both technical and non-technical settings. A demonstrated ability to write technical manuscripts will be required. Successful candidate will work as part of the space radiation group located at NASA Langley Research Center in Hampton Virginia. 

Requirements:
• PhD degree or equivalent in field of physics or nuclear engineering
• Experienced in experimental nuclear physics including cross section and thick target measurements of neutrons and charged particle 
• Experienced in using Monte Carlo transport codes 

Desired skills: 
• Experienced with space radiation environment 
• Experienced with use of transport codes to calculate radiation exposures
• Competent using Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
