Postdoctoral Research Assistant - Bioinformatics : London, United Kingdom

Applications are sought for a Bioinformatician role funded by the Medical Research Council. The research will be based in the group of Dr. Gabriella Ficz at Barts Cancer Institute, within the Barts and The London School of Medicine and Dentistry, Queen Mary, University of London. The role of the postdoctoral scientist/bioinformatician will be to assist us with bioinformatics analysis needed for various projects in the lab (for reference see Ficz et al. Nature 2011; Ficz et al. Cell Stem Cell 2013; Takashima et al. Cell 2014). The role will be flexible to allow the postdoc to develop their own project provided it is within the remit of the lab’s interests.

Essential requirements for this post include a PhD in computational biology or bioinformatics or computer-science with background in biology or similar relevant area. Significant experience in programming in Unix and any of the following: Perl, Python, C/C++/C#, Java,R/Splus/Matlab/Scilab is essential.

Experience:
• With the pipeline of high throughput sequencing data processing of RNA-seq, BS-seq, ChIP-seq experiments; 
• In coding in R/Splus/Matlab/Scilab;
• In setting up and maintaining code and data repositories e.g. SVN, GitHub, (My/No)SQL databases would be an advantage;

Appropriate publication records would be an advantage too. A demonstrated ability to communicate well, work within a team and maintain good laboratory records are also essential.
The post is full time, fixed term position for 3 years. Starting salary will be in the range £31,735 – £41,553 per annum inclusive of London Allowance. Benefits include 30 days annual leave, plus 4 College closure days, defined benefit pension scheme and an interest free season ticket loan.
