Postdoctoral Fellow : Seattle, WA, United States

The Obstetrics and Gynecology Department of the University of Washington in Seattle is seeking a Postdoctoral Fellow, to be based in the Vaccine and Infectious Disease Division of the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center, in the Hladik Group. The Hladik Group seeks to understand mucosal immunity and the pathogenesis of sexually transmitted viral infections. We work both at the bench, using a variety of mostly human mucosal specimen types to model infection and immunity, and with complex systems level data sets, using software suites and databases such as Bioconductor, Gene Ontology and Ingenuity. We hope that our studies will improve the prevention and treatment of sexually transmitted diseases, especiallyHIV. Funding support for the Hladik Group derives from two new 5-year NIH R01 awards as well as a variety of other collaborative grants.

Desired Skills and Responsibilities:
1. Is passionate about science and wants to have an impact on preventing and curing human disease.
2. Performs laboratory research projects, including collection and organization of data. Exercises technical discretion in the design, execution and interpretation of experiments.
3. Works independently, with mentorship provided by the Principal Investigator. Supervises 1-2 research technicians.
4. Works collaboratively with co-investigators of the funded research grants.
5. Possesses excellent written and oral communication skills in English, and enjoys writing scientific manuscripts for peer-reviewed publication of research findings.
6. Performs a broad spectrum of immunological, cell biology and molecular laboratory techniques, and is willing to adopt new assays and technologies as needed for his/her research projects.
7. Performs sophisticated data analysis and presentation, using software suites such as Prism and FlowJo.
8. Is versed in or interested in learning R/Bioconductor-based analysis of transcriptomics and proteomics data.
Minimum Education/Training Requirements: PhD in Biology, Immunology or related disciplines, MD.

Minimum Experience: Relevant publications and presentations at scientific meetings desired.
Laboratory environment: Work will involve handling of bio¬hazardous materials (e.g., HIV) and occasional work on evenings and weekends.
