Postdoctoral Research Fellow : Brisbane, Australia

National Environmental Science Programme Threatened Species Recovery Hub

The National Environmental Science Programme's Threatened Species Recovery Hub is a partnership between the Commonwealth of Australia through the Department of the Environment and multiple research partners across Australia.

The conservation of Australia's rich and extraordinarily distinctive biodiversity should be secure or achievable relative to that of most other nations. Yet, Australia's extinction rate is one of the worst in the world, and that rate of decline and loss is continuing unabated. The Threatened Species Recovery Hub tackles this ongoing ecological challenge through research focused on informing policy and improving on-ground management of Australia's threatened species. It brings together leading ecological experts to work on the outlook for Australia's threatened species and ecological communities.

The role: We are seeking highly motivated Postdoctoral Research Fellows (up to five positions) to be part of an exciting team committed to improving the outcomes of Australia's threatened species and ecological communities. The roles will involve specific outcome-oriented research related to a range of projects focusing on: cost effective biodiversity offsetting; threatened plants conservation listing and prioritisation; threatened species monitoring and environmental accounts; ecosystem modelling; prioritisation of threat eradication and species reintroduction; spatial planning; and threatened species management, particularly invasive predators.

Appointed Postdoctoral Research Fellows will be required to work on one or more of the above topics to develop solutions that will meet the research priorities of the Threatened Species Recovery Hub.

The person: Candidate must have a PhD in a relevant field (e.g terrestrial, plant or animal ecology; economics; applied mathematics; conservation science; statistics; landscape ecology; geography or any related field), and be highly motivated with excellent organisational and communication skills.

Remuneration: This is a two-year full-time, fixed term appointment at Academic A/B (level of appointment will be commensurate with qualifications and experience). The remuneration package will be in the rangeAUD $76,864 to $103,138 per annum, plus generous employer superannuation contributions of up to 17% (total package will be in the range AUD $89,931 to $120,671 per annum).
