Description: The faculty mentor for this position will be Dr.JULIO FCORDERO-MORALES. Postdoctoral Research Position in Physiology & Biophysics: Memphis, TN, United States. We are seeking for a highly motivated postdoctoral fellow who holds a Ph.D. in biophysics, physiology, biochemistry, or a related field. Our research laboratory aims to understand the relationship between structure and function of ion channels (e.g., transient receptor potential, mechanosensitive, and potassium channels) involved in somatosensation using a multi-disciplinary approach that includes molecular biology, biochemistry, structural biology, electrophysiology, C. elegans genetic and behavior. The fellow will investigate the molecular basis by which different sensory stimuli promote protein activation to depolarizes sensory neurons and elicit or intensify inflammatory pain.

Qualifications: Experience in protein purification techniques of recombinant membrane proteins expressed in bacteria, insect, or mammalian cells are desirable. The position will offer many opportunities to learn and apply a variety of functional and structural techniques to study sensory ion channels, such as molecular biology, animal behavior, patch clamp, two-electrode voltage clamp, calcium imaging, X-ray crystallography, electron paramagnetic resonance spectroscopy, and cryo-electron microscopy.
