Job Description

The Centre for Fisheries Ecosystems Research (CFER) (www.mi.mun.ca/cfer) within the Fisheries and Marine Institute of Memorial University is focused on fisheries science and the marine ecosystems of Newfoundland and Labrador. CFER has an exceptional team of research scientists and technical personnel that have expertise in ecosystems and food webs, groundfish population dynamics, quantitative analysis and stock assessment, early life history studies, fisheries surveys and freshwater ecology. Graduate students and postdoctoral fellows (PDF) play a key role in CFER and there are currently 17 students and 4 PDFs working on various fisheries related projects.

Description: The successful candidate will conduct a review of all models presently used in shrimp stock assessments across all jurisdictions and determine how applicable they are to model and assess northern (Pandalus borealis) and striped (P. montagui) within northern and eastern Canadian waters; conduct an analysis of the potential for a length-based assessment and if feasible, develop a model; explore the potential for other assessment approaches.

Requirements: Applicants are required to have a PhD with experience in statistical/mathematical modelling and have a broad knowledge of ecology, finfish and/or invertebrate biology and population dynamics. The working language is English.

Start and End Dates: up to two years in duration conditional on satisfactory performance evaluations

Salary: $75,000 CDN
