摘要:

Post-Doctoral Research Fellow in Semiconductor Detector Physics

University of Sussex - Department of Engineering and Design

School of Engineering and Informatics

(Fixed term until 31 July 2016 in the first instance)

Expected start date: 1 August 2015

Applications are invited for a Post-Doctoral Research Fellow (postdoc) position to work on new compound semiconductor beta particle and X-ray spectroscopy detectors for harsh environment applications, such as space science instrumentation, geology and industrial applications. The position will be based in the Semiconductor Materials and Devices Laboratory at University of Sussex and is funded by the Science and Technologies Facilities Council.

The project provides a unique opportunity to work at the cutting edge of semiconductor materials science and detector physics to develop new materials and devices that have relevance for multiple terrestrial and space applications, as well as immediate commercial potential.

The successful candidate will already have experience of characterising the electronic performance of semiconductor devices. Ideally, they will also have some experience of characterising either X-ray or beta particle detectors. The exact balance between experiment and theory will be determined by the successful candidate’s expertise.

The post is well suited to a highly motivated and self-reliant individual with a willingness to operate in a fast paced and highly productive research environment of physicists and electronics engineers.

The successful candidate will already have (or shortly expect to hold) a PhD in a related Physics, Astronomy or Electronic Engineering field of study.  Candidates who have yet to pass their PhD viva are welcome to apply but will be expected to demonstrate that they have a realistic probability of being awarded a PhD soon (typically evidenced by peer reviewed publications and a complete PhD thesis).

Informal enquiries about the position may be addressed to Dr Anna Barnett (A.Barnett@sussex.ac.uk).
