The Benaroya Research Institute at Virginia Mason (BRI) is an international leader in immune system and autoimmune disease research, translating discoveries to real-life applications. BRI is one of the few research institutes in the world dedicated to discovering causes and cures to eliminate autoimmune diseases such as type 1 diabetes, multiple sclerosis, arthritis and many others.

As a non-profit organization within the Virginia Mason Health System, BRI promotes clinical and interdisciplinary research, particularly in cancer, neuroscience and heart disease. Established in 1956, BRI is Washington State’s oldest medical research institute.

Title: Postdoctoral Research Associate
Department: Gavin Lab
Status: Full time
Responsibilities and Qualifications: Under general supervision of a principal investigator, the Postdoctoral Research Associate will conduct semi-independent or independent biomedical research pertaining to the modulation of protective and pathogenic immune responses through the therapeutic manipulation of regulatory T cells, with the opportunity to work in both mouse and human model systems.

Responsibilities include:
1. Design and implementation of projects.
2. Documentation and analysis of experimental results.
3. Preparation of data for publication and/or presentation.
4. Operation and maintenance of specialized instrumentation.
5. Conducting literature search. Continuous reading of scientific journals to keep current on related research.
6. May work with other scientific staff members in writing research grant/contract applications for funding of research projects.
7. Collaborate with other labs within BRI and UW. Discuss scientific projects in the context of experimental design and interpretation of results.
8. Provide oversight of technician’s projects.
9. Writing and submitting manuscripts for publication in scientific journals
