摘要:

As a bioinformatician / computational biologist in the Department of Medical Microbiology, you will work in a multi-disciplinary team with other bioinformaticians, wet-lab researchers and clinicians. Your work will be divided into two main tasks: 1) The use of whole-genome sequencing (WGS) to study the evolution and dissemination of antimicrobial resistance. You will analyze WGS data from outbreaks of antibiotic-resistant opportunistic pathogens and couple these to epidemiological meta-data to model bacterial transmission routes through space and time. Next-generation sequencing (NGS) data of bacterial strains recovered from patients during antimicrobial drug therapy will be used to study the in-patient development of antimicrobial resistance. 2) Implementation of NGS technology in routine clinical diagnostics. You will help to set up and implement a pipeline for WGS data analysis in clinical molecular diagnostics. Next to running and implementing existing tools and pipelines, new tools must be developed and implemented for mining, analyzing and visualizing sequence and clinical data, leading to the integration of WGS in clinical diagnostics, infection prevention and treatment.

Description

You hold a PhD in bioinformatics or computer science with proven experience in and affinity with microbial genomics. Alternatively, you hold a PhD in microbiology with a proven strong affinity for bioinformatics and hands-on programming experience. Experience with Linux command line syntax and programming languages such as Python, Perl, C, or Java are required. You are a dedicated, flexible team player with excellent communicative skills.
