摘要:

Information about the research environment
As a postdoctoral researcher, you will be employed by the department of Signals and Systems, which conducts world-leading research in biomedical engineering, antennas, signal processing, image analysis, control, automation, mechatronics and communication systems. Our research deals to a large extent with the modeling and development of efficient systems for extracting and processing information. The department has about 150 employees, divided into four research divisions and one administrative unit.

You will belong to a strong team of researchers in optical communications, organized in the research centre FORCE. This centre brings together researchers in communications and photonics to solve hard problems in optical communications through a cross-disciplinary approach. The collaboration bridges traditional discipline boundaries and includes the whole chain from components to system, from analysis to experiments.

Information about the project
The growing popularity of cloud and multimedia services is increasing the traffic volume that datacentres need to handle, leading to serious bottlenecks in datacentre networks in terms of both capacity and energy consumption. The goal of this project is to develop new all-optical network architectures and resource allocation schemes, which will allow (1) ultra-high capacity inside the datacentre, (2) reduced energy consumption of the datacentre network and (3) flexible provisioning of connectivity inside the datacentre. The research will be conducted in close collaboration with the Optical Networks Lab at the Royal Institute of Technology, Stockholm.

Major responsibilities
Your major responsibility as postdoc is to perform research and to present your results in major journals and conferences. Most of the research will be conducted in cross-disciplinary teams. A limited amount of teaching and supervision may also be included in the position.

Position summary
We invite candidates to apply for a position as postdoctoral researcher in the field of optical datacentre networks. Your role in the team will be to develop physical layer models for transmission in datacentre interconnects, for various types of new network architectures. Furthermore, you will develop transmission techniques and resource allocation schemes based on these physical layer models, targeting the three goals listed above.

The position is funded through the Swedish Research Council, with an attractive salary and full social benefits, for a period not exceeding two years (1+1). The starting date for this position is in August 2015 (somewhat flexible).

Qualifications
A PhD degree (or close to completion) in optical communications is required. The degree should generally not be older than three years. Specifically, candidates should have expertise in at least one of the following two areas and a willingness to learn the other area:

• Optical networks, including network architectures, switching technology, network control, broadcast-and-select and resource allocation;
• Optical physical layer, including channel modeling, modulation, impairment mitigation, signal processing and energy efficiency.

Candidates must be creative and have the ability to initiate new research collaborations, work in a team, present their ideas and results to researchers with different backgrounds and be open for the application of results. Good communication skills and good command of English are essential. Candidates must have a proven publication record in top-ranked journals and/or conferences. Good programming skills are necessary, and mathematical skills, particularly optimization theory and techniques, are a plus. You are expected to be somewhat accustomed to teaching, and to demonstrate good potential within research and education.
