University of Oslo is inviting applications for a PhD research fellowship to work on protein purification and structural biology experiments at the Department of Biosciences. The fellowship is available for a period of up to 4 years with 25 % compulsory work. The ideal starting date is 1 April 2015 and no later than 1 July 2015. The purpose of the fellowship is research training leading to the successful completion of a PhD degree. The fellowship requires admission to the PhD programme at the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences. Eligibility:
-Applicants must hold a Master’s degree or equivalent in Biochemistry, Structural Biology, or related fields. In addition, the candidate should have gained insights into modern molecular biology, biochemistry, and structural biology techniques during his/her studies. Ideal candidates have previously worked experimentally with proteins, using either x-ray crystallography or NMR during their MSc thesis.
-The purpose of the fellowship is research training leading to the successful completion of a PhD degree.
-The fellowship requires admission to the PhD programme at the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences. The application to the PhD programme must be submitted to the department no later than two months after taking up the position.
-A good command of English is required.

Scholarship Description: Position as PhD Research fellow is available at the Department of Biosciences, University of Oslo. Within the framework of the position, teaching duties may be assigned. The fellowship is for a period of up to 4 years, with 25 % compulsory work. The ideal starting date is 1. April 2015, and no later than 1. July 2015. No one can be appointed for more than one fixed-term period at the same institution. The candidate will work on protein purification and structural biology experiments, in a project funded by the Research Council of Norway. The goal of the project is to elucidate mechanisms used by bacteria to adhere to surfaces and other cells. A better understanding of the underlying molecular mechanisms could help to develop innovative antimicrobial drugs or surface coatings.

What does it cover? Position code 1017, Pay grade: 50 – 57 (NOK 429 700 – 482 800 per year).

Selection Criteria: The Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences has a strategic ambition of being a leading research faculty. Candidates for these fellowships will be selected in accordance with this, and expected to be in the upper segment of their class with respect to academic credentials.
