摘要:

Postdoctoral Fellow - Data analysis tools for superresolution microscopy : Heidelberg, Germany

The European Molecular Biology Laboratory (EMBL) is one of the highest ranked scientific research organisations in the world. The Headquarters Laboratory is located in Heidelberg (Germany), with additional sites in Grenoble (France), Hamburg (Germany), Hinxton (UK) and Monterotondo (Italy).

The Ries group at the Cell Biology and Biophysics Unit in Heidelberg is looking for a postdoc with a computational background to develop a powerful software platform for superresolution microscopy and new data analysis tools.

Several superresolution techniques have emerged during the last years that can overcome the resolution limit of optical microscopes by more than one order of magnitude. They combine molecular specificity with nanometer resolution in biological systems and will be a key technology of the future. Since these methods heavily rely on computational analysis, a large number of software packages are available. Nevertheless, many groups still use custom written code due to a lack in functionality and extensibility of existing solutions. As part of a community effort, we are developing a highly modular and powerful open source software platform for superresolution microscopy, based on the scientific image analysis platform ImageJ/Fiji. The postdoc will develop the architecture and back-end of the software platform and head an international consortium of scientists who will contribute own code with state-of-the art algorithms to the platform. In addition, the postdoc will develop new algorithms to infer structural information from superresolution microscopy data.

Qualifications and Experience
The applicant should have extensive experience in software engineering and Java. A background in bioinformatics, structural biology, biophysics or image analysis is advantageous
