摘要:
Umeå University is dedicated to providing creative environments for learning and work. We offer a wide variety of courses and programmes, world leading research, and excellent innovation and collaboration opportunities. More than 4 300 employees and 32 400 students have already chosen Umeå University. We welcome your application!

We offer a fellowship for postdoctoral research in our laboratory at the Department of Molecular Biology, Umeå University, Sweden. The ability of lymphocytes to generate enormous repertoires of antigen receptors that tag pathogens for elimination plays a major role in protecting higher organisms from infections. However, defects in the antibody diversification processes are also associated with tumour development and with development of many other diseases. We are interested in understanding the detailed mechanisms of the antibody diversification processes in the immune system. The candidate will participate in a project with the aim to analyse the regulation of somatic hypermutation and class switching of antibodies and the roles of inhibition of the transcription factor E2A by the Ca2+ sensor protein calmodulin in these processes. The studies expand to experiments addressing that Ca2+/calmodulin inhibition of E2A plays a major role in the regulation of antibody diversification and many other key steps in B lymphocyte development. The work will include analysis of the regulation of the expression levels of components in antibody diversification, analysis of the interactions of the proteins by proximity ligation assays and other techniques, sorting of B cells, FACS analysis, microscopy techniques, and over-expression and purification of proteins in antibody diversification that will be studied.

Qualifications:
Successful candidates should have received a Ph.D. degree in immunology, cell biology, molecular biology, biochemistry, genetics or a related discipline and have experience in fields relevant for the project. We are seeking applicants with extensive laboratory experience in culturing and analysis of eukaryotic cells. It is advantageous if the applicant has documented practical experience in several of the fields of gene expression analysis, protein-interaction analysis, DNA cloning, FACS, cell sorting and microscopy techniques. Applicants with a strong background in protein biochemistry are also encouraged to apply. The candidate is expected to execute his or her project independently but also in close collaboration with the other members of the research group. Good written and oral communication skills in English are essential.

Application:

The application for the postdoctoral fellowship should include:
•A cover letter summarizing your research interests and experience, your suitability for the position and motives for applying (maximum one A4 page)
•A CV including publication list and PDF copies of relevant exam certificates
•Names and contact details including e-mail addresses of three academic references
•Other relevant documentation you wish to include in support of your application

Documents sent electronically should be in MS Word or PDF format.
