An e-science-oriented computational food microbiologist / predictive microbiologist is wanted for ComBase@IFR, a BBSRC-supported National Capability, to further develop ComBase, a web-based database and decision support tool, accompanied by predictive models. The system is an electronic depository of bacterial response data to food environments as well as of predictive models built from the data. It is used by academia, industry and regulators.

It is embedded in the multidisciplinary Computational Microbiology Research Group of the Institute of Food Research, Norwich. The group has internationally renowned track records in quantitative food microbiology. The fellow group members will be mathematicians, IT professionals, bioengineers and food microbiologists.

The ideal candidate will have an interdisciplinary PhD related to computational (mathematical modelling / statistics / scientific computing) or food microbiology, with strong backing from the other field. Familiarity and former engagement with business and industrial clients, such as training and advising, is vital.

Salary on appointment will be within the range £28, 100 to £34, 430 per annum depending on qualifications and experience. The appointment will be for 24 months in the first instance.
