摘要:

Research Assistant/Associate in Optics/Biophotonics for Multimodal Endoscopy

Division of Surgery

Imperial College London -Department of Surgery and Cancer

in association with the Hamlyn Centre for Robotic Surgery

Salary Range:

£28,770 - £31,880 per annum (Research Assistant)

£28,770- £41,540 per annum (Research Associate)

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Research Assistant (at the pre-doctoral level) or Research Associate (at the post-doctoral level) to work on a collaborative project on “Optical Platform for Therapy and Diagnostic Imaging in Minimally Invasive Surgical Endoscopy” in the Hamlyn Centre for Robotic Surgery and the Division of Surgery. The project is funded by the European Research Council.

The overall aim of this project is to develop a surgical system for simultaneous optical imaging for image-guided surgery and gold nanoparticle mediated thermal therapy. This will allow the recent advances in nanotechnology to be applied using newly developed optical surgical instruments. This work also has promising clinical potential for optical adjuvant cancer therapies and for tissue fusion.

The position involves significant R&D challenges based around the construction of polarization-resolved optical endoscope instruments that are able to image tissues in vivo during surgery. The end results will contribute to clinical research including cancer staging, minimally invasive surgery, interventional imaging, and the development of molecular imaging techniques. The translational work will involve close collaboration with a chemistry Research Associate and a Clinical Research Fellow.

You will need to have a strong engineering or physical sciences background (preferably photonics/ optical/ laser physics). Research Assistant applicants will have a Masters degree (or equivalent) in an area pertinent to the subject area and Research Associate applicants will have a PhD degree (or equivalent) in an area pertinent to the subject area. You should have proven knowledge and track record in this research field. You must have excellent communication skills and be able to organise your own work with minimal supervision and prioritise work to meet deadlines. Preference will be given to applicants with a proven research record and publications in the relevant areas.

The post is full time and fixed term until 30 November 2014 in the first instance, based at the South Kensington and St Mary’s campuses (Paddington).

Our preferred method of application is online via our website http://www3.imperial.ac.uk/employment. Please complete and upload an application form as directed.
