Development of a reference genome for sugarcane (Postdoctoral fellowship) : São Paulo, Brazil

Sugarcane is a major crop for sugar and biofuel production throughout the world. Biotechnology for this crop’s improvement could profit from a definition of a reference genome. We are currently sequencing the sugarcane genome using several strategies that include obtaining whole genome shot-gun data and RNA-Seq. This project is carried out in collaboration with several research groups from Brazil, Europe and Microsoft Research Institute from the USA.
The production of a working draft of the sugarcane genome and the development of an algorithm for allele identification within sequencing data demands a highly skilled post-doctoral candidate that can oversee sequence data obtainment and analysis as well as bioinformatics tool development. The candidate should be a molecular biologist with sequencing experience and bioinformatics expertise. The post-doc will have to interact, oversee and guide technicians and a senior bioinformatician to define programs and the use of tools. The candidate will be working with the sequencing facilities to oversee, trouble shoot and optimize data generation and analysis and with the bioinfo developers to guide the creation of interfaces for web access and datamining by group members. The candidate will be the primary data evaluator working to develop the pipeline for sequence data analysis and sharing.
