Title Postdoctoral - Pediatric Brain Tumors

Specific Title Appointment Type Postdoctoral Fellow Department IUSM - Neurological Surgery Campus IU School of Medicine Indianapolis Position Summary

A full-time Post-Doctoral Research position is available in the Department of Neurological Surgery. The candidate will assist the principal investigator in conducting research on pediatric brain tumors, primarily high grade glioma. This research is focused on examining the mechanisms resulting in tumor formation and response to therapeutic treatments. We are seeking for a creative, well-organized and self-motivated candidate with experience in animal handling and studies, molecular biology, next-generation sequencing techniques and data analysis to join our team.

Job Summary

Primary Duties and Responsibilities:

Independently molecular biology and biochemical analyses including Western blotting, protein assays, PCR, DNA and RNA sequencing and report results.

Performing biopsies, bioluminescence imaging and drug administration on mice.

Testing of small molecules in cultured cells and related analyses including flow cytometry and microscopy.

Advanced molecular biology techniques including plasmid construction, bacterial culture, plasmid purification, and related analyses

Assist with the maintenance of regulatory monitoring and paperwork (IACUC, Biosafety, Laboratory Safety, and Radiation Safety).,

Keeps organized analytical data of performed experiments

Acts as a liaison to students and laboratory personnel for training

Responsible for the initiation, monitoring, completion, and reporting of complex and intricate laboratory experiments

Organizes and implements data review and analysis.

Prepares research summaries and assists in progress report development.

Participate in lab meeting presentations. Review literature to identify suitable procedures and methods.

Basic Qualifications

EDUCATION

Required

Bachelor's degree in science or a related field

Doctorate degree (PhD) in science or a related field or terminal degree required

SKILLS

Required

Demonstrates a high commitment to quality

Highly thorough and dependable

Excellent communication skills

Possesses flexibility to work in a fast paced, dynamic environment

Maintains a high degree of professionalism

Demonstrated time management and priority setting skills

Expertise in biochemical and molecular biology analyses, protein, DNA and RNA sequencing.

Experience in animal related studies (e.g. mouse IP/IV drug administration and tissue dissection)

Tissue culture experience

Proficient in Word, Excel and PowerPoint

Preferred

Experience analyzing sequencing data / bioinformatics.
