Our laboratory of Biophysical Chemistry of Macromolecules (LCBM) at the EPFL in Lausanne, Switzerland (http://lcbm.epfl.ch/) offers a position in Chemical Biology/Biophysics of chromatin, starting immediately.

Human DNA is exposed to constant damage including UV light, reactive oxygen species etc. Rapid, efficient and high-fidelity repair of DNA damage is of crucial importance for human health. DNA damage repair processes are highly complex and involve highly controlled signaling networks between protein factors and combinations of chemical modifications of chromatin.

To reveal the underlying molecular mechanisms, methods outside classical biochemistry are required. Our laboratory has pioneered many novel approaches combining chemical synthesis of defined chromatin fibers and single-molecule imaging methods to observe biology in real time. The aim of this project is thus to develop novel approaches, combining designer chromatin synthesis and dynamic multiplex single-molecule imaging in vitro and in cells, to DNA repair processes in chromatin.

The ideal candidates for this position have an interest in chemical biology, biophysical chemistry or a related field and have a strong interest in elucidating molecular mechanisms in chromatin regulation. We are particular looking for candidates with a strong interest and/or background in:

- single-molecule methods in biological systems

- chemical biology of proteins and peptide chemistry

- protein purification handling and characterization

- quantitative / systems biology and modeling.
