The Novo Nordisk Foundation Center for Basic Metabolic Research Faculty of Health and Medical Sciences University of Copenhagen

We are looking for an experienced and motivated Staff Scientist with extensive experience within development and use of advanced histological methods to head the histological unit in the Schwartz laboratory at The Novo Nordisk Foundation Center for Basic Metabolic Research (CBMR) to start 1 August 2021 or after agreement.

Our research The Novo Nordisk Foundation Center for Basic Metabolic Research's vision is to strengthen interdisciplinary research that transforms our basic understanding of the mechanisms that underlie metabolic health and disease, and to accelerate this knowledge toward new prevention and treatment strategies. We were established in 2010 and in 2017, we moved into new laboratories, offices and meeting rooms in the Maersk Tower www. maersktower.ku.dk.

The aim of the Schwartz Group is to characterize and understand how signalling metabolites and their specific GPCR sensors interact with hormonal and neuronal mechanism to control endocrine and metabolic functions as the basis for developing novel means to prevent and treat obesity and diabetes. Your job You will be heading our histology unit and work closely together with members of the Schwartz group as well as members of other groups at CBMR in relation histological analysis of mainly metabolic, endocrine, and neurological tissues.

Your profile

Criteria:

  The successful applicant should have a PHD in cellular biology, neuroscience or equivalent research area.

  Permission to work with animals (category C) is required

  Experience in microsurgery including transcardial perfusions and ICV injections

  Extensive experience in histo- and immunohistochemistry including in situ hybridization is required

  Experience in advanced quantitative Image analysis is required and training and experience in histological stereology I an advantage

  Experience in both light and electron microscopy

  Experience in building and running a histology unit/laboratory would be an advantage

 Experience in basic biochemical analysis such as ELISA, Western blotting, immunoprecipitation and related techniques would be an advantage

Moreover, it is anticipated that the applicant has:

  An excellent scientific tract record

  Experience in working in an interdisciplinary international research team

  Experience in student and lab technician supervision

  Strong collaborative skills: ability to share knowledge and expertise, and support to a multidisciplinary team

  Excellent written and oral communication skills in English

Place of employment The place of employment is the Novo Nordisk Foundation Center for Basic Metabolic Research, Maersk Tower, Faculty of Health and Medical Sciences, University of Copenhagen. We offer creative and stimulating working conditions in a dynamic and international research environment.

Terms of salary and employment The employment as Staff Scientist is a permanent and full-time position. Starting date is 1 August 2021 or after agreement.

Depending on experience and qualifications, the employment will be as either Academic Research Officer or Research Consultant.

Employment will be in accordance with the provisions of the collective agreement between the Danish Ministry of Finance and AC (the Danish Confederation of Professional Associations). The monthly salary will be based on the number of years of work experience (seniority) with the possibility to negotiate a salary supplement based on prior experiences and qualifications.
