Job description

The Research Centre for Global Learning (GLEA), within the Institute for Global Education is seeking to recruit a capable and experienced Research Fellow with a research track record in the higher education and/or social policy fields to join the project ‘UK-ASEAN Partnerships and Exchanges Research' (UK-ASEAN PER).

In this project, three work packages with some 20 UK-based and Asia-based researchers will study a range of UK transnational education (TNE) arrangements and research collaborations between the UK and 15 East Asian countries and territories including the ten countries of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN), China, Japan, South Korea, Hongkong and Taiwan.

The project aims to develop a deeper understanding of policies, practices, priorities of HE internationalisation by investigating ideas, principles, institutional arrangements, contexts and actors that foster or weaken UK-East Asia partnerships. The research results will inform policies for future multilateral or regional partnerships that will support the need for enhanced equity and inclusion, bringing mutual benefits and added value to all involved. Combining British and Asian perspectives and theoretical resources from international relations and HE research fields, the project will contribute original knowledge and methodological advancement to the field of higher education research for analysing multidimensional HE partnerships at a large scale and under the pandemic.

The Research Fellow will work closely with the Principal Investigator, Dr Que Anh Dang, to provide support to all three work packages within the UK-ASEAN PER project, in conducting research, preparing reports, publishing academic papers, disseminating information, networking?and other activities that will contribute to the project's impact. The applicant will have excellent self- management skills and proven ability to meet deadlines and targets.

The successful candidate will possess a PhD or equivalent, in education or a related field/discipline, alongside experience of working in a research role in these disciplines in the Higher Education sector. Given the diverse audiences and importance of public engagement activities to this project, the candidate is required to have skills in research communication, including data visualisation using the Tableau software or similar. Ability to communicate in one of the East Asian languages would be an advantage. The role may also require international travel.

The Fellow will be based at GLEA in Coventry and work in a research stimulating environment with over 60 researchers from PhD to professors. Furthermore, the Fellow's academic development will be supported through Coventry University's Early Career Researcher Development programmes.

For further information and for informal enquires, please contact Dr Que Anh Dang at queanh.dang@coventry.ac.uk

Provisional interview date will be confirmed to shortlisted candidates.

The start date will be 15 May 2021 or soon after. The post is fixed term until August 2022.
