美国劳伦斯伯克利国家实验室电子显微镜分析博士后职位

Electron Microscopy Postdoctoral Fellow

Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory

Description

We are seeking a highly motivated postdoctoral research fellow to join the Joint Center for Energy Storage Research (JCESR) at Berkeley Lab. The candidate will investigate the structures of solid electrolytes for next- generation lithium-ion batteries using advanced transmission electron microscopes and image processing algorithms. The ultimate goal is to obtain atomic-scale images that will be used to validate the theoretical models and influence future materials design.

What You Will Do:

  Conduct the imaging of solid electrolytes using four-dimensional scanning transmission electron microscopy (4DSTEM) and cryogenic transmission electron microscopy (cryo-TEM).

  Use image processing packages to reconstruct phase-contrast atomic-scale images.

  Establish the quantitative correlations between experimental images and simulated images.

  Develop an understanding of structure-property relationship in solid electrolytes at atomic-level.

  Validate the theoretical atomic models of solid electrolytes.

  Publishing research achievements in peer-reviewed journals and presentations at professional conferences; contributing to scientific research papers and patents.

  Effectively work with other researchers associated with the program.

What is Required:

  Ph.D. in materials science and engineering, electrochemistry or chemical engineering within the last 5 years.

  Demonstrated expertise in the operation of scanning transmission electron microscopes and/or transmission electron microscopes (STEM/TEM).

  Ability to work in a large team; JCESR is a multi-institutional organization comprising researchers hailing from 25 states and 4 countries who work collaboratively to work on problems related to electrochemical energy storage.

  Experience in the preparation of scientific manuscripts, reports, and posters.

Additional skills that will be valuable:

  Demonstrated expertise in the sample preparation using focused-ion-beam (FIB) or other instruments.

  Demonstrated knowledge or expertise in imaging processing using Python or MATLAB.

  Knowledge in the application of machine-learning-based algorithms in image processing.

  Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Requested Application Materials:

  Cover letter describing your research experience (1 - 2 pages)

  CV with publication list

  Contact information of 1-3 referees. (References will not be contacted until the interview stage has been completed and the applicant has been notified)

The posting shall remain open until the position is filled, however for full consideration, please apply by close of business on March 30, 2021.

Notes:

  This is a full-time, 1 year M-F, exempt from overtime pay (monthly paid) postdoctoral appointment with the possibility of renewal based upon satisfactory job performance, continuing availability of funds, and ongoing operational needs.

  You must have less than 4 years of paid postdoctoral experience.

  Salary for Postdoctoral positions depends on years of experience post- degree.

  This position is represented by a union for collective bargaining purposes.

  Salary will be predetermined based on postdoctoral step rates.

  This position may be subject to a background check. Any convictions will be evaluated to determine if they directly relate to the responsibilities and requirements of the position. Having a conviction history will not automatically disqualify an applicant from being considered for employment.

  Work will be primarily performed at Lawrence Berkeley National Lab, 1 Cyclotron Road, Berkeley, CA.
