国尤里希研究中心分子生物物理学/分子神经科学博士后职位

Postdoc in molecular biophysics / molecular neurosciences

Jülich Research Centre (FZJ)

Work group:

IBI-1 – Molekular- und Zellphysiologie

Area of research:

Scientific / postdoctoral posts

Job description:

Living cells use electrical signals for fast and effective communication. Such electrical signals are generated by ion fluxes through ion channels along concentration gradients generated by ion transporters. At the Institute of Biological Information Processing – Molecular and Cellular Physiology (IBI-1) – we use a combination of experimental and computational methods to describe ion channels and transporters at atomic resolution, to identify the role of such proteins in cellular processes and to understand how dysfunctional channels and transporters cause human diseases. Our work contributes to understanding normal and pathological information processing in the human body, with the ultimate aim to correct or to manipulate such processes in diseases.

Your Job:

You will use a combination of computational and experimental approaches to study substrate association and translocation in SLC1 transporters in a project that is part of the DFG Research Unit 2518 Functional dynamics of ion channels and transporters – DynIon. Your tasks in detail:

◦ to study membrane transport proteins with computational and experimental approaches

◦ to contribute to an international research team, publish in international journals and present results at international conferences

Your Profile:

◦ You are pursuing a scientific career in physiology, biophysics or neurosciences

◦ You hold a doctoral degree in the field of Physics/Chemistry/Mathematics/Medicine or in a related field

◦ You have strong interest in computational and experimental methods to investigate membrane proteins

◦ You have knowledge of at least one programming language, basic experience with Unix-like operating systems and expertise in Molecular Dynamics Simulations

◦ You have good team working skills

◦ You are fluent in English

Our Offer:

◦ Excellent research and computing infrastructures in one of Europe’s largest research facilities, located between the cities of Cologne, Düsseldorf, and Aachen

◦ International and interdisciplinary working atmosphere in a dynamical team

◦ The opportunity to get expertise in state-of-the-art techniques and strategies in the field of molecular dynamics simulations, molecular biology, patch clamp electrophysiology, fluorescence spectroscopy and microscopy

◦ Ideal conditions to start a scientific career

◦ Continuous scientific mentoring and discussions by the scientific advisor

◦ Contract for the duration of 3 years with possible extension and additional qualification (habilitation, installing an own group)

◦ Full-time position with the option of slightly reduced working hours

◦ Flexible working hours and various opportunities to reconcile work and private life

◦ Salary and social benefits in conformity with the provisions of the Collective Agreement for the Civil Service (TVöD). Depending on the applicant`s qualifications and the precise nature of the tasks, salary grade 13 TVöD-Bund

◦ Exploration and preparation of next career opportunities supported by our Career Center & Postdoc Office (https://www.fz-juelich.de/careercenter)
