COMPUTATIONAL BIOLOGIST/BIOINFORMATICIAN POSITION IN TRANSLATION CANCER RESEARCH

Job Description

Do you want to contribute to top quality medical research?

Description of Research Group and Work place.

The position will be placed in the Biomedicum, one of the most modern research building in Europe hosting a large part of the experimental research at KarolinskaInstitutet's Campus Solna. The candidate will work within the groups of ‘Cellular Metabolism' headed by Assoc. Prof. Erik Norberg and ‘Protein Degradation Pathways' headed by Assoc. Prof. HelinNorberg.

Our research groups includes scientist from various disciplines working as a team to gain new knowledge. We undertake a multi-disciplinary approach including systems level investigation of autophagy and metabolism. Beyond generating mass spectrometry data on quantitative proteomics and metabolomics, we also generate genomic and transcriptomic data, which are used together with experimental wet-lab data to bring new insights into cancer biology.

We now need to strengthen our groups with a computational Biologist/Bioinformatician within the field of multi-omics data analysis and cancer research.

Your mission

We are looking for an outstanding computational biologist/Bioinformatician scientist with experience of analysis of omics data. The position requires solid expertise in genomics, transcriptomics, proteomics and/or metabolomics

The candidate will work on integrative and translational analysis of multiple levels of omics data derived from cell lines, xenografts, human tumors compared to normal healthy tissues.

The focus will be on analyses and interpretation of both complex in-house generated and public domain data (incl. The Tumor Genome Atlas and Cancer Cell Line Encyclopedia).

This includes applying established data analysis steps as well as to explore and develop new strategies for the analysis of quantitative biological data.

Experimental design and statistical analysis of the quantitative data are important components of the work. It is expected from the applicant to be acquainted with software and programming languages related to omics data analysis. In addition, enabling omics datasets to be public is important by building and maintaining databases.

The position offers a great possibility for interaction with scientist across different disciplines.

The employment is a two year (1 + 1) position with a possibility to become a permanent position.

Your profile

PhD in bioinformatics, computer science, mathematical statistics or in biology/medicine but with strong practical experience in computational biology.

Documented experience (preferably as publications in international peer- reviewed journals) in bioinformatics, including experience with NGS, MS proteomics or metabolomics and bioinformatics algorithms.

Working experience in systems biology/medicine, large-scale data analysis, integration and visualization.

Programming/coding experience in one or more platforms: R, Matlab, Python or C++.

Knowledge in statistical methods

An understanding of cell- and molecular experimental methods.

Good communications skills in English.
