Postdoctoral or Research Associate Opportunity in Diabetic complications and metabolomics

The Pennathur group at the University of Michigan (Division of Nephrology) has an opening for a postdoctoral or research Associate in studying role of nutrient and lipid metabolism and mitochondrial function using metabolomics in models of diabetic kidney disease and other complications. We are funded by the NIH to develop comprehensive program in kidney disease and metabolomics. Recent relevant publications from the laboratory include: J Lipid Res. 2018 Feb;59(2):173-183; J Am Soc Nephrol. 2018 Jan;29(1):295-306; J Biol Chem. 2018 May 11;293(19):7238-7249; JCI Insight. 2016 Sep 22;1(15):e86976; JCI Insight. 2019 Nov 1;4(21):e130317. doi

The ideal candidate has a strong background in basic mechanisms of metabolic diseases (diabetes and/or obesity) and documented expertise in transgenic mouse models, cell cultures and various molecular, histological and biochemical techniques including applications of CRISPR/Cas9 gene-editing techniques. The position involves collaborations with researchers in the group having basic, translational as well as clinical backgrounds. Documented expertise with diabetes or kidney related work, mitochondrial biology and model systems is necessary (3+ years postdoctoral research with 2 or more first author publications in the field). Training related to the use of metabolomic analysis and bioinformatics will be provided. Salary will be as per NIH postdoctoral guidelines and is negotiable for more senior candidates. Applications will be considered until the position is filled.

Requirements

◦PhD in in Physiology, Biochemistry, or a related discipline.

◦ ◦3 or more years of postdoctoral experience in metabolic diseases and mouse models.

◦Strong background with basic biochemistry, histology and molecular techniques.

◦Applicant should be self-motivated, have critical thinking and independent working skills, possess sufficient communication skills, and the ability to work with others in a collaborative research environment.

◦Expertise in preparing grants and presenting in national meetings would be necessary.

To apply, please submit a concise statement of experience, curriculum vitae, 2-3 referees, and contact information to: Dr. Subramaniam Pennathur, Chief, Internal Medicine/Nephrology, 5309 Brehm, 1000 Wall Street Ann Arbor MI 48105 or spennath@umich.edu
