The job includes but is not limited to work in laboratory, greenhouse, and field to study the molecular epidemiology of insect-transmitted viruses in GA. Develop research design, diagnostic tools, data analysis, interpretation, project management, results summarization, and formal presentations in meetings and symposiums. S/he will be expected to work on multiple projects for high-throughput results in the form of publications.

A postdoc position is available starting early Spring 2021 in the plant virology Laboratory, Department of Plant Pathology, College of Agricultural and Environmental Sciences, The University of Georgia-Tifton. The position is based in Coastal Plain Experiment Station at Tifton, GA. Initially, the job is for one year, and future continuation is based on performance, productivity, and fund availability. The successful applicant will contribute to a project involving insect-transmitted virus, characterization, and epidemiology on GA's agroeconomic crops. Studying the various component of the pathosystem with emphasis on virus-vector and virus-host interaction crops important to Georgia. Application of genomic approach for host resistance against the viruses in agricultural produce and has to work on multiple projects. Disseminate the research outcomes through conferences, symposia, and peer- reviewed research articles, help in writing grant proposals and reports.

Relevant/Preferred Education, Experience, Licensure, Certification in Position

Ph.D. in Plant Pathology (virology), recent graduates.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and/or Competencies

Experience in applied and basic molecular virology concepts and knowledge of methodologies relevant to working with viral and plant host nucleic acids (DNA and RNA), primer design, molecular cloning in E.coli, and Agrobacterium vectors/systems, and Next-generation sequencing and bioinformatics. Knowledge/proficiency in statistical and bioinformatics software addresses molecular virology questions, e.g., phylogenetic, recombination, conserved protein domain, protein structure, large and small RNA, and evolutionary analyses. The individual should be able to work both independently and as a team member. Innovative, excellent organizational, time-management, experimental design, and communication skills are essential. S/he Should have good laboratory practices, work ethic, respectfulness to others, and commitment to a career in plant virus research.
