  Job description

Your task is to initiate and work in research projects utilizing the most up- to-date SAR satellite data and supervise master and doctoral students. The position includes scientific development and advanced analytical models and innovative solutions for processing of multi-parametric SAR imagery from recent and prospective space-borne sensors. The position provides also excellent opportunities to develop your pedagogical skills and possibility to participate in teaching. Specific duties include

  • Active participation on the group's activities in space technology and remote sensing • Writing scientific papers jointly with the other members in the group • Guiding of graduate and PhD students • Filling project applications to national and international funding agencies • Providing consultancy and supporting commercial customer work of the group • Establishing and maintaining active collaboration with leading SAR research teams worldwide

  Research group

The work is carried out in the microwave remote sensing and small satellite research team lead by Professor Jaan Praks. The group has strong experience in SAR polarimetry and interferometry and small satellite platforms. The active multinational team is composed of over 15 researchers. It is well connected and well secured with funding. The university provides well-equipped modern work environment in the heart of most active technology campus area in Finland.

  Your background

The successful candidate has a strong research profile in SAR remote sensing methodologies. In this position, knowledge of most relevant environmental applications is needed (forestry as the top priority, also land, crop and marine applications) and knowledge of machine learning and deep learning, and big-data handling is an asset. You have a strong record of academic achievements demonstrated by original international publications and you can show a documented ability to attract external funding from national and/or international funding agencies (e.g., EU, ESA or EUMETSAT). Specific requirements

  For the Research Fellow position:
