  Position Description

  The Department of Cell Biology & Anatomy (https:// www. ucalgary.ca/cba/), in partnership with the Alberta Children’s Hospital Research Institute (ACHRI; https: // researcbkids.ucalgary.ca/) invite applications for a Contingent Term academic position at the Professor level to serve as the Director of the Biomedical Laboratories, ACHRI.

  Qualifications include a PhD, post-doctoral experience and a demonstrated track record of research excellence in epigenomics as well as cellular and developmental biology. The successful candidate will have a record of high impact publication and evidence of research impact consistent with appointment at the full Professor level. Experience directing a core facility and supervision of research staff is required. In addition, the successful candidate will have experience mentoring post-doctoral fellows and graduate students. The ideal candidate will have interests in modeling genetic disease, cell culture and organoid systems (including mechanisms of cell differentiation), and in translating fundamental cellular and developmental biology to applications in child and maternal health. That candidate will be able to work with existing faculty in ACHRI to help facilitate the development of multidisciplinary research teams.

  The position profile is 50% service, 35% research and 15% education. The service component includes development of an organoid facility and management of core laboratory facilities and infrastructure including supervision of research staff within ACHRI as determined by ACHRI leadership. Research expectations include collaborative research and the option to develop an independent research program. The successful candidate will be expected to contribute to graduate education in their area of expertise and undergraduate teaching if appropriate.
