If you are working abroad as a post-doc or a visiting scholar, you may want to consider taking some time off work to travel around and go sightseeing. Regardless of which country you have chosen as your destination for your academic visit, there are always beautiful places that are worth visiting.
如果您在海外做博士后或者访问学者，免不了需要请假去周边观光游玩。无论您在哪个国家进行学术访问，那里总会有一些值得您参观的胜地。
If you are planning to stay more than one year abroad, you may be eligible to apply for personal vacation time. If your stay will be shorter than one year, then you can still talk to your supervisor to ask if it is possible to get a few days off.
如果您计划在海外生活一年以上，或许您可以申请休年假去旅游。假如在海外生活时间是不足一年，您可以和您的老板沟通是否可以多请几天假。

· Always plan in advance. Time off work has to be approved by your supervisors and it may also require to be processed by the International Department of your University, Laboratory or Hospital.
· 切记提前计划。请假不仅需要得到您老板的同意，并且可能还需要您所在大学的国际交流处、实验室、或医院的许可。
· Some institutions require you to notify them in advance if you are planning to visit another city or state, so check with them beforehand.
· 如果您计划去其他城市旅行，有的机构会要求提前向他们提出申请，所以一定要提前和您所在的机构确认好请假事宜。
· It is also very likely that you may need to fill out an Application Form.
· 有时候您还需要填写一份申请表。
· You can take advantage of big national holidays to try and extend them a bit more, so that you won’t lose too many days of work.
· 您可以趁着公休小长假再请几天假期，以避免请假太多耽误工作。
· If your application is approved, remember to notify all of your coworkers and set up your email account, so it sends automatic responses for the days you will not be able to be reached.
· 如果批准了您的请假请求，记得通知您的同事们，并提前设置好您的邮箱自动回复内容，这样来信的人就知道您现在正在休假中了。

B: It’s a good thing you told me with one month in advance. I guess it won’t be a problem. You still have to contact the International Visitors Department, though. How many days are we talking about?

A: Just 2 extra days right after the Christmas Holiday.

B: Ok, from my side it’s alright. I’ll send an email to the International Department and CC you. Just follow their instructions. I believe you will need to fill out an application form and have me sign it. Also, if you are planning to go to another city, you will need to provide certain details of your trip to the International Department, such as where you will be staying.
