  Posting Summary

  Rutgers, the State University of New Jersey is seeking a motivated Postdoctoral Fellow for the Emerging Pathogen Department within the New Jersey Medical School. Under direction of the Principal Investigator, the Postdoctoral Fellow conducts microbiological and systems biology research activities to explore mechanisms underlying antibiotic lethality in bacterial pathogens.

  Among the key duties of this position are the following:

  Cultures and quantitates pathogenic and non-pathogenic bacteria including M. Tuberculosis, and select agents requiring work in BSL3 facilities including drug resistant strains.

  Performs microbiological and molecular biology assays including, not limited to, MICs, antimicrobial-resistance

  testing, time-kill experiments; DNA/RNA extraction, PCT and RT PCR, genetic cloning; DNA/RNA/protein gel experiments; single cell characterization by microscopy; -OMICs characterization by next-generation sequencing or mass spectrometry; phenotypic characterization by rodent infection models, flow cytometry, plate-based assays.

  Assists in the development and testing of new assays including chemical and genetic screens, next-generation sequencing, and/or microscopy.

  Performs network modeling, machine learning and/or bioinformatic analyses of experimental data.

  Works safely in a BSL3 environment, compliant with biosafety protocols.

  Assists in training graduate students and technicians and performs other related duties, as assigned.

  Assists in laboratory organization, including the ordering and stocking of supplies for laboratory efficiency and cost effectiveness. Submits purchase recommendations, to the Principal Investigator, of equipment and supplies.

  Assists the Principal Investigator with the preparation of grant applications and manuscripts.

  Assists the Principal Investigator in written and formal presentations to industrial collaborators and funding agencies.
