  Job Description

Are you looking to be a member of a high performing team? The Computer Science Research Institute (CSRI) is seeking several postdoctoral researchers across a wide range of computational- and information-centric disciplines who want to gain experience and contribute to our world-class computing research organization. We are looking for a diverse set of applicants who can complement and/or expand on our current strengths in computational mathematics, computational science, data and information sciences, high performance computing, software engineering, multiphysics and materials modeling, uncertainty quantification, discrete mathematics, machine learning, quantum computing algorithms, neuromorphic computing, and decision support. We are looking for candidates who thrive in a dynamic and exciting environment, who can adapt and expand their areas of expertise to join existing project teams and be willing to contribute to new research projects that arise during their tenure. We also have a limited amount of flexible research funding for select postdocs to pursue their own ideas, either continuing areas from their thesis research or to take the time to grow expertise in a new research area, under mentorship of CSRI staff. The Postdoctoral Appointee position in our center can often be a stepping stone to a career at Sandia. On any given day, you may be called on to: + Work as part of a technical team conducting innovative research in computing, broadly defined + Demonstrate technical leadership, publish outstanding new developments in peer-reviewed scientific journals, and contribute to development of open source software where relevant to project needs (e.g. software for high performance computing environments) + Interact and cooperate with a diverse set of colleagues, customers, and sponsors

  Required:

+ You have, or are pursuing a PhD in computational science, computer science, applied mathematics, statistics, data science, or a related engineering or science discipline and possess a bachelor's in science, technology, engineering or mathematics (STEM) + You have a publication record indicative of relevant research expertise + Experience in an area of computing research, examples include: computer architectures, system software, computational science, applied mathematics, machine learning, artificial intelligence, numerical methods, graph algorithms, Bayesian inference, reduced order modeling, compression, uncertainty quantification, validation and verification, feature extraction, linear/multilinear methods, nonlinear optimization, data analysis & visualization, and/or statistics + Able to obtain and maintain a DOE security clearance

  Desired:

+ Strong written and oral communication skills + Ability to contribute to or lead the preparation of archived publications + Demonstrated ability to team in an interdisciplinary R&D environment + Demonstrated research community leadership through activities such as participation in student or professional organizations, service on committees, workshop and/or conference organization, and editorial roles + A background in solving practical problems in science and engineering that involve encounters with real world data + Experience with software design such as Object Oriented programming + Ability to find creative solutions to algorithms and software problems + Experience with coding for new computer architectures + Experience in high-performance, distributed, or parallel computing + Experience in C++, Python, Matlab, R, SQL, data parsing/preprocessing tools, and data analysis tools + Interest in impacting applications and customers from DOE missions

  Department Description:

The Center for Computing Research (CCR) at Sandia creates technology and solutions for many of our nation's most demanding national security challenges. The Center's portfolio spans the spectrum from fundamental research to state-of-the-art applications. Our work includes computer system architecture (both hardware and software); enabling technology for modeling physical and engineering systems; and research in discrete mathematics, data analytics, cognitive modeling, and decision support materials.
