  Job Description

The Department of Pediatrics, Dr. Nichole Klatt's laboratory, at the University of Miami, Miller School of Medicine, has an exciting opportunity for a Postdoctoral Associate. The focus of the Klatt laboratory is the microbiome, and pharmacomicrobiomics and interactions with host immunity and inflammation in the context of disease prevention and pathogenesis. We have a highly cutting-edge study published at Science on our studies of the impact of the microbiome on HIV susceptibility in the context of vaginal pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP) where the Klatt laboratory led the novel studies that found that vaginal microbiota can metabolize antiretroviral drugs, which may underlie decreased PrEP efficacy. This is a highly novel and important field of research, and a major part of this position is to follow up these studies. In addition, the Klatt laboratory focuses on understanding the microbiome relative to host processes in HIV and other diseases, and to develop novel interventions to treat and prevent HIV, STls, cancer, and other diseases.

The Postdoctoral Associate will perform scientific research and studies under the supervision of managing staff. Moreover, the Postdoctoral Associate will promote institutional recognition through literal contributions to the scientific community.

  Minimum Qualifications

Ph.D. in a relevant field of study such as Pharmacology, PK/PD, Microbiome, Microbiology, Molecular Biology, or Bioinformatics or M.D. Mass spectrometry experience, microbiome/virome sequencing and bioinformatics analysis highly preferred.
